St. Valentine, as one ancient myth reports, was incarcerated for his unwillingness to bow down to Roman gods. He would acknowledge only the God, Creator of all. While in prison, he befriended the jailor’s daughter and they had many conversations. Before he was taken and beheaded. In gratitude (not for the beheading but for her kindness) he left a thank you note for her and signed it “Your Valentine.”
